First Friday Adoration

I make all things new.
— Rev 21:5

Liturgy of the Hours. Taize chants.

Adoration. Silence. Lectio Divina. Confessions.

We gather to seek Life, meditate on Beauty, enter into the Holy of Holies, behold the Truth and learn how to love better. We intercede for those who suffer and those who can not receive God's love or reject it.

Yes, dear brothers and sisters, our Christian communities must become genuine “schools” of prayer, where the meeting with Christ is expressed not just in imploring help but also in thanksgiving, praise, adoration, contemplation, listening and ardent devotion, until the heart truly “falls in love”. Intense prayer, yes, but it does not distract us from our commitment to history: by opening our heart to the love of God it also opens it to the love of our brothers and sisters, and makes us capable of shaping history according to God’s plan.. It would be wrong to think that ordinary Christians can be content with a shallow prayer that is unable to fill their whole life.”

Lectio Divina from Feb. 2015 Adoration. Sister Mary Bernadette (Sisters of Saint Francis of the Martyrs of St. George)

Each Adoration is similar, but also very different. The atmosphere and content is dictated by the liturgical season, Encounter.'s current teaching series and the particular discernment of the overseers and Encounter.Groups leaders. The main points usually include Lectio Divina, Silence, Vespers or Compline and Taize chants. Confessions are heard throughout the evening.

Our Adoration team is blessed with very skilled, proficient musicians and singers as well as with talented, more or less experienced amateurs. We usually have one practic before each Adoration, lasting about 1.5 - 2 hours, where we learn new Taize chants, Psalm tones and hymns, and try to make simple musical arrangements. Depending on the occasion, we might include worshipful contemporary songs after Adoration.
